# Finding My First White Hair: A Sign of Aging

Today, I’m going to talk about my first white hair. I was looking in the bathroom mirror, and just out of the corner of my eye, I saw something shining above my head. I looked at it and realized it was a white hair—a single strand. I thought, ‘Oh, okay, that’s new.’

Then I looked up on Google to see what age people start getting white hair due to old age. It said mid-30s to 40s, and I thought, ‘Yep, I’m in that age bracket, all right. I guess this is the beginning of the old age.’ Of course, we’re all getting older every day, but you know, white hair is one of the most visible signs of getting old.

Then it occurred to me I've had different kinds of white hairs. I’ve had one particular hair that’s been white ever since I can remember as a child. It’s like, for some reason, it just doesn’t have any pigment. That’s just what I was born with, I guess.

Then there are the white hairs caused by my vitiligo. Those white hairs come and go. I tend to notice they appear in the spots where my vitiligo is when I've gone through a certain period of stress. After I recover, it takes a few months—but once the non-stressful period is over, the hair color returns. So, I guess this new discovery is the third type of white hair, caused by old age. And yeah, the feeling is certainly like, ‘Wow, okay, here it is.’

I don’t know how else to describe it, but it’s like one of the official signs I’m getting old. People talk about being lethargic, not being as active anymore, or noticing that hangovers last longer. You start noticing wrinkles, but nothing is as obvious as your first white hair ha!
