Gen X are entitled too

You often hear about the young generation being entitled, but honestly, I think parents can be entitled too and its an under discussed topic. For example, my mum chose to retire earlier than her retirement age. She decided she could spend on whatever she likes, and if there's not enough money at the end of the month, she can just ask me for some. I'm not really open to that because I actually think half the things she spends on aren't essential.

There are other schools of thought, saying your parents raised you and bought all these things for you, so it's time to give back. I agree there's some truth in that, but I feel like it applies more to when your parents are truly in need. When they are physically unable to work, they've reached retirement age, and don't have enough for basic needs. They genuinely can't sustain themselves.

That's basically the same situation as a child. In those cases, as a family obligation, you'd support them however best you can. But for parents to just assume, 'Don't worry, my child will sort me out,' feels a bit entitled for me.
