# Screentime choice: a dictatorship exercise?

Parents often turn to technology as babysitter, I read somewhere around 30% of parents practice this regularly (sounds a bit too low to he bonest). I am not against tech and screens, and there are plenty of online courses that can help teach children through videos and fun activities. 

Where I'm stuck is when we try to practice "choices and democracy" with screentime. I would say to him, 'Okay, you have 1 hour of screentime to watch what you want' but for the past 1 year, 95% of the time he would choose to watch cartoons on Netflix. Not even animal documentaries or other wholesome programs no matter how many times I hint by suggestions or adding these programs to 'My List'. 

I understand he wants to veg out a bit. So, I'm thinking about what is a wholesome way for him to veg out. Could this be an excuse for a dictatorship exercise?
