Throwing up after drinking coffee
Have you ever thrown up after drinking tea or coffee? I hadn't been much of a tea or coffee drinker until I had my little lion. Going back to work while he was still waking up at night was tough, and coffee really made a difference to the brain fog. Since my milk supply was going down, I figured it was okay to start drinking coffee because it won't have much effect on my baby since his diet is less than 50% body milk.
The first time I felt nauseous, I didn't realize it was because of the coffee. We had a team lunch at work, and I hadn't had breakfast that morning—probably because I didn't have time. I drank some coffee to keep awake, and at the restaurant, I felt so nauseous. I thought, "I can't be pregnant again; my little lion is barely six months old." I was considering taking the rest of the day off, but I felt fine once I was back at the office.
It took a few months for me to realize I had some sensitivity to caffeine. I looked into it, and apparently, it's all about acid. Either the coffee or tea itself is acidic, triggering a reaction, or drinking them on an empty stomach induces stomach acid, leading to nausea.
I felt relieved to understand there are ways to handle this instead of thinking every month "am I pregnant again?". I learned to eat something when drinking coffee or tea. Each time I forget, my body reminds me in a not-so-subtle way, and I think, "Gosh, I should have eaten something." The good thing is, as soon as I realize what's happening and eat something, the nausea goes away in about half an hour—kind of like taking medicine for a headache.
