Where To Practice Improv Music?
I think every child has some kind of musical feeling or talent inside them. When I was a little girl, I genuinely thought I had a talent for singing and often copied the girlbands on MTV singing and dancing. I loved watching choreographed dance.
I remembered feeling jealous in my teenage years watching some colleagues perform a musical instrument or dance in school shows. I was only good in choir singing, but there was no choir group in my school and my parents were not able to send me to any private dance or music lessons.
Every parent wants better opportunities for their children. To introduce music to my little lion, I bought him a bunch of musical toys so he can try and see what sticks. Alas, nothing sticks. When he started school, I offered to send him to music and dance lessons, he didn't want them. He's more into sports.
What I did notice is that he likes to improv and beatbox. In the car and around the house, he would randomly sing his own lyrics created on the spot, with random beats coming out of his mouth making a genuine rhythm and tune.
At one point I haven't heard him do beats with his mouth for a while, I asked if he was still interested in it. The answer broke my heart.
He was told in his daycare to stop doing beatbox and he was punished when he did it.
We had other issues with the daycare which is a different post altogether. At this point, we have already stopped going to this daycare for a few months, but the effects are still there.
Coming back to the present, I want to nurture this improv / jamming / beatboxing but can't seem to find anything around my area. Perhaps its too niche, its only available online? Any thoughts?
